Frequently Asked Questions > Allotments, Backgreens and Community Gardens > I'd like to find somewhere to grow some food, but I can't get an allotment. What should I do?
You could try to find someone who'll share their garden with you. Try posting a request on The Greener Leith Social. Someone who's having trouble maintaining their garden might offer you some space.
Alternatively, if you're happy to work in a group, and share the fruits of your labours, then you could help out a community garden in Leith. Contact us to find out how you can get involved in a Leith Community Garden project.
If you live in a building with a shared back green, you might be able to start growing stuff there. It would probably be best to pop a note through everyone's door to ask permission before you start though, especially if you would need to make major changes. The Edinburgh Backgreen Association is active in some Leith backgreens already, and if you can get a group of neighbours together, they might be able to help you sort it.
