Fix your Neighbourhood
|My Society have launched a great new site called Neighbourhood Fix It. The site allows people a simple way to report problems in their neighbourhood like litter, graffiti, burst water mains and abandoned vehicles. Simply type in your postcode, find the location of the problem on a map, enter the details (and a photo if you've got it) and the report will be sent to the council.
Interestingly, other people can see problems that have been reported, and they can even discuss them. Also, if you're techno savvy enough to use RSS feeds, you can subscribe to updates for your area.
This is a brilliantly simply piece of technology and we'd encourage everyone to have a look and maybe even try reporting something if you need to. They've just passed 1000 reports nationally so it's still pretty new. What we don't know yet is whether the council will take the site seriously, and give feedback on whether the problems have been fixed.
We'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on this site. Is it something you feel could work? If anyone in Leith or Edinburgh reports something we'd be delighted to find out whether you get a good response from the people responsible for fixing the thing you report.
