Join the Leith - Portobello Bike Adventure!
|
Greener Leith is pleased to invite everyone with a bicycle in Leith on a 2km bike adventure to Portobello, on Sunday the 23rd of September.
We're organising this for two reasons. First off, we want to highlight the fact that just a little money would create a fantastic off road cycle path that would link Portobello and Leith Links. Sadly there are at least a couple of parts that are impossible to ride a bike along at the moment, so we're going to need to get off and push sometimes. If you're coming bring shoes you don't mind getting muddy! However, we're going to photograph the tricky bits and stick them on the web here, to show everyone how tricky it is at the moment, and also how good it could be.
Secondly, a group called PEDAL, based in Portobello, are organising Portobello Car Free Day, and so Greener Leith wanted to do something to support their event. Portobello Car Free Day will feature, amongst a whole load of other things, a bike parade - so everyone from Leith is encouraged to 'dress' their bikes too, as aparently there's a prize going for the best dressed bike. The plan is to cycle from Leith and join the Porty Cycle Parade which starts at 1.30pm.
More information on Portobello Car Free Day can be gleaned from the press release.
If you want to take part in the Leith - Portobello cycle adventure all you need to do is turn up on the day. We're going to meet at 12noon at the gates to the Leith Links Allotment site. All kiddies will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult, and we reccomend that you bring waterproofs, munchies, shoes you don't mind getting a bit muddy, and money for a pint in Porty. If you want a better idea of where we're going then you can see the route on this map.
Thanks to Zero G for the photo.
