Leith Food Summit

It has been a while since Greener Leith held a public meeting, and so to make up for it we've organised something a little bit special. A meeting on the subject of all things Food.

What? Greener Leith is only one of a whole number of organisations working in the realm of 'food' in Leith. Whether it's promoting healthy living, running food co-ops or setting up  and running community gardens, there's a great deal of activity going on in Leith these days. We at Greener Leith would like to explore how we can work together to add value to what's already going on and develop what we do ourselves.

Hugh Raven, Director of the Soil Association in Scotland will help set the scene with an introductory talk and then we will have a round table discussion looking at these issues:

1. Mapping out what's happening in Leith.
2. What could we be doing more of? Are there any gaps and why are they there?
3. How can Greener Leith add value?

Where? The meeting will be held at Out of the Blue on Dalmeny street, and the cafe will  be open providing food, coffee and tea to keep us all going.

When? Wednesday, 14th of January, 2009. 6-8pm

Why? Greener Leith has already undertaken a number of food related projects. We've planted a berry hedge in Pilrig park and we've helped to set up the Persevere Community Garden. Working with the results of the Leith Links Ask, we're also in early discussions with the council about establishing another berry hedge on Leith Links, and possibly a childrens orchard.  We want to make sure that all these projects are as good as they can be and that we're working together with other organisations where we can.

A note of caution - Out of the Blue can be a bit chilly if it's cold outside. Bring hats and warm clothes!
