Edinburgh Harbour Planning Proposals

Last week we went to the Forth Ports public consultation meeting on the 'Edinburgh Harbour' Outline Planning Application that is currently awaiting the consideration of the city council planning committee. We did our best to live 'tweet' the event, as those of you who follow us on twitter will know.
Greener Leith volunteers are working with Leith Links and Leith Central Community Councils with the aim of putting together a joint submission on our thoughts about the proposals. We'll post this submission to this website shortly.
In the meantime, Greener Leith has managed to do three things that will make it easier for everyone to find out about the proposals and have their say on them. Firstly, we know that there's lots of people who can't make it to evening meetings to discuss planning application - however important they are to the future of Leith. So,we persuaded Forth Ports to provide us with the presentation that they gave at the meeting that outlines the key facts and gives a flavour of what is proposed. We think the presentation is probably a bit more digestible than the planning documents themselves. If the slides (above) seem too small in this webpage you can view them full screen by clicking on the 'clipboard' icon in the bottom right of the slide image.
Secondly, we asked Forth Ports to put a link from their website to the planning application on the planning portal, where you can submit a comment on the application on-line. The councils on-line planning pages are good - but they can be hard to navigate if you don't know the reference number of the planning application that you're looking for. We're pleased to see that Forth Ports have indeed put the link up now making it easier for people to comment on the application.
The last thing we did was ask the Planning Department to give us more time to submit comments. We have extended the deadline for everyone until the 18th of February. You don't need to wait for us to post our comments before submitting your own. You can submit your comments to the planning committee on the application by clicking here.
So, for example, if you think the 'Edinburgh Harbour' name isn't any good, and you think it should be changed to something else (lots of other leithers do), or if you'd like to have your say on something entirely different, it's not too late to influence the planning committee, and it's as simple as pressing the send button on the council website.
