Local Traders Show Their Love For Leith: Part 2

Last Week we launched our We Love Leith 'Bonus Bag' initiative, which gained us a nice article in the Evening News. We were particularly keen to see that they listed the local businesses that signed up early and the offers that they provide. However, one of the businesses that just signed-up too late for the press release is All Seasons Flowers, on Leith Walk.

As well as agreeing to sell the We Love Leith bonus bags, they're also offering customers a 10% discount on all purchases made with a We Love Leith shopper. But the reason we mention them here, (because they're not the only new business to join our growing directory of participating businesses), is because when we delivered the bags we were handed this 'inaugural piece of doggerel,' as we left the shop:

Greener Leith (with apologies to King Henry the VIII of England).

Alas for Leith that Seafield Stinks,

That dogs are fouling in the Links,

And something must be done, methinks,

So I am joining Greener Leith.

Greener Leith is what we want,

Greener Leith is what we dream,

Greener Leith and we can help,

We all can help if We Love Leith.

Pilrig Park and The Links are green,

The Hibs are clad in an emerald sheen,

The gardens and back greens are seen,

To echo the chorus of Greener Leith

Greener Leith is what we want

Greener Leith is what we dream

Greener Leith and we can help

We all can help if We Love Leith

So don't drop litter in the street,

Don't use the car, but use your feet,

Get a canvas shopper to carry your meat,

And do your bit for a Greener Leith.

Greener Leith is what we want

Greener Leith is what we dream

Greener Leith and we can help

We can all help if We Love Leith.

Nobody has ever written a poem about Greener Leith before, so we're quite chuffed. If you think you can do better, feel free to add your prose, poetry, or other creative musings on Greener Leith to the comments below.

If you've been inspired to join Greener Leith as a result of this poem, then we'd like to usher you discreetly towards our secure on-line payment gateway.

Or if you represent a local business and would like to join our We Love Leith Bonus Bag scheme, then you can register on-line here
