Car Free Day Shore Was Fun

Ally But don't take our word for it. Here it is in pictures:
Or in numbers (these are just the ones we know about!):
- About 500 visitors
- 5 winners of the Bike Fancy dress, from more than 30 people who attended the bike fancy dress workshop on the Friday.
- 60 people received Eco-driving advice
- More than 200 cups of free pedal pressed apple juice were given away - that's 30kg's of apples!
- 150 people got a free 'We Love Leith' goodie bag
- There was a constant queue at Dr Bike, with more than 30 people getting their bike fixed for free.
- There could be only 1 winner of the Car Free 5 a-side Football Cup - The Leither team!
Or in tweets:

And some of our favourite comments:
This is what Five to Four had to say about finding out she was among the 10 car owners whose car was moved by the council before the event:
"Hey. It wasn't an inconvenience at all, I thought it was quite funny and still wonder how they managed to move the cars!!! I.... thought it was a great idea! X"

"Just back from a lovely wander along the Shore - what a great day, folks! Brilliant to see people enjoying the street and kids playing in the open space, rather than just queues and queues of traffic!"
"Enjoyed yesterday lots - the football was fun - I still think my team was robbed - and enjoyed fishing the odd stray ball out of the Water of Leith."
Staff from Sofi's Bar said:
"Just to let you know that I had a wander around with my friend yesterday and we both thought the event was great! Thank you for organising and creating such a wonderful community feeling right on our doorstep, we even peddaled for some apple juice, yum."
Staff from the Roseleaf said:
"What a great day, we've been recommending the event to all our customers."
Alex said:
"Great fun yesterday - my children particularly chuffed!"
And about the Bike Workshop on Friday afternoon, Angus said:
"I thought the bike workshop this afternoon was great - thanks for organising it! Lots of kids, Alchemy Arts folk were great and had brought lots of stuff, and everyone had a good time.
There were lots of kids there from Leith PS and also some from St Mary's, Hermitage and I think also at least one family from Lorne."
If you were at the Car Free Day, we'd love to hear your thoughts on it too. We'd also like to thank all the volunteers who helped out on the day - especially Margo MacDonald, honorary Provost of Leith, who had the tricky job of judging the bike fancy dress competition, David Barnes (of Leither fame) and his wife, who between them kept an eye on the footie, and provided first aid cover for the day, all the woodcraft folk, and Rob Munn - who helped us pack everything up and the end of the day. We should also thank Pizza Express and The Cruz for their help too and we certainly shouldn't forget to thank Eero and Riley for providing discounted gift vouchers as prizes for the bike Fancy Dress. Lastly, we'd like to apologise to anyone who was inconvenienced in any way by the day.
We note that there seems to be a lot of people who like the idea of permanently pedestrianising the Shore. What do you think? You can vote for the idea here: http://weloveleith.uservoice.com
If you took photos of the day, and you'd like to share them with the us, please add them to the Greener Leith photo pool on Flickr.
