Tenement dwellers offered help with bike parking
October 29, 2011 by
Ally Following some excellent research by SPOKES, that showed that problems with bike storage in tenements is a significant barrier that stops more people cycling in Edinburgh, the Council have announced details of a new pilot project. It aims to explore whether better on-street bike storage will help to encourage more people to use bikes to get around.
At the moment, the council is looking for expressions of interest from people who live in tenements. You can find out more details in the form below:
Pilot of on-street Residential Cycle Storage
We think there's a huge scope for better cycle parking and storage facilities given how many tenements there are in Leith. In the form, we note that the council are keen that local residents and organisations take some responsibility for managing and maintaining any new bike storage.
If you are interested in taking part in this scheme, but worried that you might not want to take on any responsibility on your own, Greener Leith would be interested in working with local residents and the council to help with their management and maintenance.
If you think we can help, or if you fill in the above form and submit it to the council, do get in touch to let us know.
