Volunteer with Greener Leith

In our bid to make Leith a greener place we are always looking for people who can spare some time each month to help out . We would be delighted for anyone with enthusiasm for what we do to join us.

If you feel you have something to contribute, don’t hesitate to contact us for a friendly chat. We'd also encourage you to join The Greener Leith Social. It's a unique social network for Leith that allows everyone to easily share ideas and inspiration.

We're always looking for new ideas, and projects, so if you feel that you would like to do something that we haven't tackled yet then please let us know, as we'd like to hear from you. We've outlined some ways that you can get involved with what we do below.

Greener Leith Events

Greener Leith organises a range of public events throughout the year. From work days down at the Persevere Garden, or planting Berry Hedges, to Litter Picks and discussions there's usually at least six public events each year.

We announce all our events via our blog, our email newsletter, and on the Greener Leith Social. The best way to make sure you don't miss anything is to subscribe to our free weekly news email. You can do this here: http://www.feedblitz.com/f/?Sub=92502

We're always looking for help to organise events, and if we had more volunteers we could do more! If you would like to organise an event in your corner of Leith, we can help you promote it. Contact us to let us know what you'd like to do or to help us organise more events you could join our volunteer discussion group.

Action Alerts

If you're pasionate about improving Leith, then you should keep an eye out for news items on our blog in the 'Action Alert' category. Action Alerts often involve simply emailing someone, or signing up to support a particular campaign, or giving your opinion in a consultation.

Again, the best way to stay up to date with new action alerts is to subscribe to our weekly news email at http://www.feedblitz.com/f/?Sub=92502

You can see recent action alerts by clicking here.

Fix Your Leith

The Greener Leith website is more than just a blog. We've made it easy for you to contribute to our website. If you see something that needs to be fixed in Leith, like fly-tipping, broken water mains, or graffiti you can report it to the council using the site www.fixmystreet.com

When you do, your report will appear on our Fix My Leith page, and a link to it will also appear in Greener Leith News Extra, so that others can see that someone has reported the problem. Lastly, we'll also post it to our followers on Twitter. Don't worry the people behind Fix My Street also make sure your report still goes to the council too!

Be Our Eyes And Ears

If you take a photo that you think the Greener Leith community might be interested in you can add it to the Greener Leith photo pool on Flickr. When you do, it'll automatically show up on our latest photos page.

There's so much going on, sometimes we don't think we can keep track of it all. You can help us. If you see a news article, a website, in fact any web page that you think will be of interest to the Greener Leith community you should tag it "greenerleith" on the bookmarking service Delicious.com . If you do, the web page you've tagged will show up in our 'Greener Leith News Extra' and, yes, that means it'll also get shared with all our followers on Twitter too!

Help out behind the scenes

Greener Leith is a membership organisation. That means that our board is elected each year from the membership and they run Greener Leith for the next year. However, you don't need to be on the board to help out with the daily running of Greener Leith. If you have a project that you'd like to take forwards, or you'd like to help us develop one of our existing projects then we'd love to hear from you.

We're also keen to hear from people with specialist skills. In particular, we'd like to hear from people with skills and experience in fundraising, media, membership development of non-profit organisations, legal services and the urban environment.

If you are interested in joining the management board you need to attend our AGM, which we announce each year on our website. The management board can also co-opt people onto it, so if you're really keen to get involved in the day to day running of the organisation then please contact us to discuss.
